She has won several Troupe Competitions as Troupe Mandala, as well as duet and soloist competition in California, Oregon, and Nevada. Denise has been the Keyboard & Zil player for the band “PANGIA” and co-founder of the original and award winning Troupe Mandala. Currently, Director of Troupe Mandala, California, she has danced, taught workshops & played keyboards & zils all over the West Coast, the East coast and performed in Mexico, with OUD player Pat Olson. She teaches classes at College of the Siskiyous. Denise also teaches workshops along with Pat for the Rakkasah Festivals West, East & Spring Caravan Festivals. The co-producer and artistic director of PANGIA’s seven CDs in her “spare” time, she is a free lance writer for several Belly Dance Publications, designs & creates costumes. Learn basic zil patterns, rhythms and dynamics along with drills for arms, hips, footwork and movement combinations. This workshop is a great way to begin developing technical proficiency with zils, and realizing their musical value in enhancing your dance!
How to Dance with your Zils…Really! (2nd hour) You will learn a short combo, a starting point in fusing your zil and dancing skills into a compatible, cohesive and unified harmony. Comprehensive handouts will be provided for you to take home so you can keep practicing! Class size is limited. Bring your own zils (Zils also available for purchase at the workshop).
